Man killed by Portsmouth officer hit by 11 bullets - NBC12 News, Weather Sports, Traffic, and Programming Guide for Richmond, VA |
A medical examiner's report says 11 bullets hit an unarmed man who was fatally shot by a Portsmouth police officer in April.
The report by the Norfolk medical examiner's office says 26-year-old Kirill Denyankin was hit by bullets in the chest, left shoulder, right upper arm, back, left thigh, right flank, hip, right wrist and left hand.
The Virginian-Pilot reported the findings Wednesday.
Police have said Denyankin was pounding on an apartment door when Officer Stephen D. Rankin arrived at the scene. Denyankin was shot after he disregarded verbal commands and charged at the officer.
Virginia Beach lawyers Carlton F. Bennett and John D. Hooker Jr. say they plan to file a wrongful-death lawsuit on behalf of Denyankin's estate.
