How many of you run your CBs with just a proper alignment for transmit and receive, set the dead key a the accepted 4 watts for your old Uncle Charlie and let it go? Then you concentrate on having the best antenna system you can provide.
I am just curious. Over the past few months I have cleaned off the work bench. I gave away a bunch of radios to friends who were curious. Two to our garbage man for his trucks. One to a local police dept. that runs portable scales- the only officer that can run the scales asked me for one. One to a local salvage man. I gave a pile of antennas to the local CB shop guy to sell as used. You know the stack of past experiments in the corner of the shop that we had to try out. It seems pretty neat to have clean shelves. May sell some things on E-bay? The CB hobby is a great deal of fun that I hope to share with my son as he grows up. He is just learning to talk well. I don't regret the money I have spent learning that CB means Constantly Buying. Many of you gentlemen's word's of advice stopped me from buying a SWP radio. Its been 5 years since I have been investing time in CB radio and today I am more concerned with having the most functional antenna system for the vehicle and properly tuned radio with about 4:1 swing. The terrain conditions in Western Penna allow for 5-6 miles at best under ideal conditions. Antenna is everything. Most of the time 4 watts swing to 16-18 works fine with a good mic and properly tuned antenna. I give top marks to DTB Radio. I've had a lot of work done by Bob's CB too.
