I was in to this stuff about 15 years ago.Is there a board that can be put in the Uniden Grant XL to have upper and lower channel i have the cb tune up books but they dont have all the channel as my superstar 121 and not as easy to use
Thanks for the help just trying to get back in to something i like to do

Its your radio but I would not modify a Grant XL. I have one and its stock except a little turn on the mod pot. Get a export for extras channels:headbang They make new ones every day. Just my opinion and everyones got one I know.

yes there are Expo boards , but why ? You can easily get channels of the 8719 chip in the radio with 2 or 3 extra switches or by using the switches already on the radio.
MB8719 & RCI8719 PLL

The Expo L kit gets you 40 up, 40 down while the chip mods you speak of get only a handful of downstairs channels but upstairs channels way past 28 mhz.

40 up and 40 down extra channels is all good with me . Although I've never really needed much more then 15 up or down extras concerning a cb radio to begin with. These 148/Grant chassies are very stable bodied radios. Some of the best receiving chassies of all time.

Solid SSB performance , drift free. I think the poorman's channel mod is a good way to go on these. Your just getting what a fine radio already has to offer. You can always add the third switch for plus channels or even a 10khz jump.

Expo kits are getting harder and harder to come by. There's certainly nothing wrong with working off the chip , Might ? just be more stable then the Expo kits ? It's just a very easy mod for somebody looking for a handful of extra's that wouldn't cost them anything if they knew how to use a few of the switches already on the radio. :)

I've had them done both ways and crossing the PLL chip pins with 2-3 switches is indeed more stable.
