Just got a PC-68XL (close to the 66) it's missing C-70 a small cap that acts or is the limiter in the radio . I would like to replace it back to normal, Anybody have the size and numbers on that one ? would surely be appreciated. thanks

Thanks alot Bush !! I'll give it a whirl
not a big deal--- its not like I knew that from memory-- just a matter of taking a look in an old cobra 25 i had laying around
Thats whats in this one 1uf 50 volt
I can only guess why whoever took that out-- i suppose there could be plenty of reasons--- variable power through the amc could be 1 of them that for sure
How does the radio sound overall?-- Any other funky stuff been done?

I thought the 25 used a diode ? there was no varable power in this one , it was clean , they had maxed out the power by taking out the slug by the final and tweaking one of the coils a bit .....no big deal !! .....I used a 10uf / 50volts (it's all I had on hand) it brought it down and was able to take to 100% (or close to it) after I replaced the slug. Cbtricks has a scamatic but my monitor could not make out what C-70 read.

Thanks for the info Justin , I got a hand full of the 1uf's yesterday and just replaced it as it should be. IM not one to cut diodes , even though I still like like NPC's and Swing Kits for amp purposes....at least you still don't have to cut or gut a diodes or caps to accomplish that. I may like other things that others don't and understandably why, but out and out raping a radio isn't my thing. I really don't mind a little consentual this and that from time to time. It's just a hobby for me ,not boot camp. Peace and Happy Holidays.

Justin Cant you change the value of the cap to allow better timing of the af circut?

You can change a cap in the AMC, but thats not the one. You want to change the cap that runs from the active AMC transistor' base (2SA733) to ground. Its a 220uf stock. Change it to a 33 or 47uf, like the old 25 GTL's. Part # is C91, and it will be loacted along the right side of the radio, towards the front if looking down att the parts side of the board. Make sure you put the + side of the cap to ground in that circuit, as the AMC transistor's base uses a negative voltage.
