Anyone know where to look at a Uniden 68 PCB layout?

I have one that I think someone diddled with the VRs some.

S meter barely moves on RX and on TX a 2 watt DK pegs it. :watusay

please dont take offense to my response, as it is not meant to be rude in any way.

you are probably not going to get a technical response to this question.

this is the equivilent of saying, "my car wont start; can you tell me how to take the carburetor apart?"

if you have to ask where to look, and are already assuming that it has to be a VR that is the culprit; you really dont want to be messing around inside that radio.

what you want to do is buy a book or two, and start reading.
with enough reading you will run across a similar symptom, or learn how to troubleshoot the problem.

these repairs also require test equipment.
if you already owned the equipment you need to repair the radio; you probably wouldnt have to ask for the answer here.

sorry, but someone pointing out a certain VR is not going to solve your problem.
what do you do when you find the right thing to turn?
how will you know where to set whatever you adjust?

Sorry I looked and can't find any thing either

Took me a while to respond, I was somehow banned.

Turn it.

Well, TX power would be set to my external power meter. How hard is that to figure.

RX would be set to a radio I have that I trust. The S meter is pretty much relative anyway, can you point to any CB's that are reliably 6 db per S unit from S0 to S9? I wouldn't bother to test any, I doubt it would tell me anything I don't suspect.

I really don't think I need very elaborate equipment to set the meter on a CB.

Why do you?

i was coming at this from the, "i have a radio here that is not working right," perspective.

just because the S meter doesnt move and it slams to the right on TX doesnt mean for sure that the VR's are the culprit.
there could be something wring inside the radio that is causing this phenomenon.

if you know for a fact that the VR's have been turned, and want to turn them using a wattmeter and secong radio, to get them close enough, it sounds like you already know exactly what to do.

"Anyone know where to look at a Uniden 68 PCB layout?"

i just re-read this and can see how i might have misunderstood what you were asking.
i thought you were asking, "where on the inside of a uniden 68 do i look for VR's to turn?"

i now think i see what you were asking was, "where can i find a diagram of the VR locations in a uniden 68?"

here ya go,
that radio is the same as the 25ltd if i am remembering correctly.
VR 1-S-meter
VR 2-AGC? (RF gain range)
VR 3-RF output meter
VR 4-squelch range
VR 5-AMC

best of luck to ya,

Yep, but checking the easily accessed VR's is a good place to start.

Thanks for the info.

hope it works for ya.

if those VR's turn out to be the right ones, then check cbtricks.com
they have the service manual for the 25LTD there and you should be able to use it to give the radio a full alignment.

whatever problems there are should show up while doing the alignment.
later,
