Dear Worldwide Radio Forum,
A few days ago, I spoke to a friend on the CB Radio and responded to his call, that he was scared on the highway in his car because the other cars were going so fast. I immediately told him to move to the right lane, where you can go slow and become confident.
The interstates are dangerous. Remember to move to the right lane if there is traffic that scares you. You can drive your car slower there.
In Florida, the slogan was for a long time, Arrive Alive! This was a drive for Floridians to abide by the speed limit, and wear their seat belts.
So Friends, keep up the good talk on CB Radio, and remember to drive safely!

If you get in a group of unruely drivers, simply take the next exit and then get back on. Poof, you'll have new set of unruely drivers to deal with.

Better to just stay home.

I have always figured that if you were too scared of the other cars on the highway then you have no business being on the highway to begin with. :roll: Yes I have been in traffic that made me a tad nervous but I am not used to traffic bumper-to-bumper-six-lanes-wide either. I have been behind people that have been too scared to pass a vehicle in front of them even when there is nothing coming as far as the eye can see and ask "WHY?" Driving on the roads today is not for the faint of heart and often the "slow and carefull" drivers are the cause of frustrations that leads others to take chances they normally would not.My suggestion is that if you can't handle the heat then stay out of the kitchen. I mean no disrespect with my comments but I do truely feel that if interstate driving "scares" you so bad you need to make a call to someone about it then take a different route.

I personally can't relate to being scared in a driving situation. I've been sideswiped a couple times at 80+mph, hit by a big rig running a red light out of a truckstop, smashed into from behind more times than I can count (including taking out a couple of extreme tailgaters) , been in horrible weather conditions while driving including fog that limited visibility to 50 feet or less, been in bumper-to-bumper rush-hour traffic in places like Washington DC, NYC, Boston, etc, and one time lost my brakes in stop-and-go rush-hour traffic on the Atlanta, GA beltway, but none of that has made me "scared" to drive. I CAN however relate to being behind or near someone who IS scared. Those situations are the only times I can say that I was nervous, because you never know what the "scared" person is going to do. In that respect, I have to agree with QRN, if driving in a particular situation scares you, don't drive in that situation. You just make it unsafe for everyone else AND yourself, because fear will cloud your judgement.

Shnit ! I've been driving for 30 years and even I get a little nervous from time to time behind the wheel , I personally think it's a good thing for me ,8 years ago I was forced (hit and run) into the center devider on the I-5 going 65 miles an hour in a little 3 plug Geo Metro , the car bounced off the devider and flipped me over a few times across the freeway ,the car looked like it was a rolled up piece of paper,I got out with a scratch on my ass and a stiff neck , the car was totalled ,but there was a lot more luck (GOD) involved then I will even go into. Not patting myself on the back here either , it is what it is. I personally drive on the defensive watching out for my own well being. DTB ,you have been in a lot of crap dude !! and I'd guess to say that you were blessed to be able to sit there and write about it. I personally can't blame the dude for being "scared" as he put it. One things for sure, that accident changed my life and driving skills forever there after. If your truly that "scared" when you get behind the wheel , take the bus. Welcome to the Forum

agrees with the above... also when your scared and getting out my way dont slow down when you change lanes speed up a little and slide into the far left lane then you can slow down if you wish.

then there is those road rambos that think they need to or have to stay in the far left lane and try to control traffic. there even more dangerous.

My personal favorites are the ones that freeze when an emergency vehicle comes up behind them.They do not slow down or pull over but do tap the brakes a lot and look like they want to pull over to let you go by but for some reason they just don't do it.Some even speed up a bit! :shock: Then there are the ones that wait until the last minute to pull over and brake hard forcing the emergency vehicle to brake hard to keep from running into them. :roll: Having been an auxilliary RCMP officer in a former life I can tell you there are all kinds on the road that shouldn't be.There is nothing quite like escorting an ambulance and having someone in front of you slam the brakes on at the last minute and almost making a police car sandwich out of you. :shock:

i guess that semi jack-knifing in the oncoming lane of the 2 lane road was trying to miss a deer....
