This statue was wrapped in bubble wrap by itself, placed inside a box with packing peanuts, that box was placed inside another box with foam packaging all around, and they still managed to destroy the contents...What a waste of American tax dollars paying the salaries of these fools who can't deliver a package in one piece...

My guess is all who read this have most likely had some kind of similar situation with USPS...Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me I guess...

I will never, ever, ever ship anything worth anything via USPS again. Unfortunately, all trust has been lost in our postal service.

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, that is what happens when employees don't have any fear of losing their jobs. A lot of that is caused by the unions!

The statue you've lost is very fragile and the chances of it not being damaged is very low during shipping

In the larger scheme of things your loss is minuscule compared to the amount of deliveries that went through without damage and or nondelivery.

I personally have had only 1 shipment arrive damaged in all my years dealing with government and or private parcel companies and that was due to the shippers inadequate choice of packing materials.

USPS is by far the most reliable choice you have for parcel shipping and by not using them is a loss of your tax dollars and by using ups/fedx you in turn are cutting your own throat.

Hope you insured it. I always insure it double or triple its value. I think when they see the High price they tend to take better care of it.

Of the 40 or 50 radios and other equipment I have purchased and shipped, I have only had 1 arrive without some sort of damage! Granted, some of these were heavy, but the damage is totally unacceptable. This includes UPS and USPS. Most were well packed. Some weren't, and I understand how those happened.

When you actually file a claim with USPS when there has been damage, don't they make you provide documentation proving the value of the item? I seem to recall having to do that when they soaked a radio that was shipped to me.

So if I ship a radio that costs 200 bucks and insure it for 600 bucks and it gets damaged, I get 600 bucks? I doubt it.

I think I had to show the original invoice for the radio and the value of the mods I had done to it in order to collect when they trashed it. At least they paid up--the full original price of the rig (Galaxy DX2517), and the mods that I had had done to the radio (about 100 dollars worth) and the shipping both ways ( I had sent the radio specifically for the mods, and the shipping was 35 bills each way). But I had to show paperwork for everything.

I've been shipping on a daily basis for over 20 years. Long enough to get a good feel of the situation. I use UPS when I ship products to my distributors because we bill on their account. However, I use the Priority Air service from the post office for all of my website orders. The risk of damage during shipment has much more to do with how you pack the item then who you ship it with. None of the shipping companies actually handle your package with care. You're fooling yourself if you think marking it fragile helps.

So many people think double boxing solves everything. If you don't leave enough space inside each box to allow ample cushioning with styrofoam peanuts, then the double boxing did nothing. How much space is enough? Plan on having the box dropped and ask yourself what will it take to survive a drop? Then pack accordingly because this type of mishandling happens all the time.

I have to say I like the US post office the best. They sure have the best price for the 2 or 3 day priority service. The few times they have made a mistake, I've found collecting the insurance to be a faster process with them then with UPS. I can ship the same package with USPS Priority Air in 2 days for less money then UPS ground in 5 days. My claims related to loss or damage have been less then 1 in 100 the USPS and definitely higher with UPS.

Welcome to the (U)nreliable (P)ackage (S)ervice victoms club it happens everyday and for those who believe in there insurance dont kid yourself they took me for a good chunk of money a few years back then I watched them bend a friend over a table 2 years ago aswell.

I have actually talked to delivery guys that explain to me that SUMMER AND HOLIDAYS ARE THE WORST BECAUSE GET THIS....They get alot of college students home on break and they come in hungover or with plain $hi++y attitudes and they simply dont care this is just an extra money type thing to them and theres always other college student jobs to be had.

I lost a very exspensive Yaesu base radio project I had the all band all mode completely rebuilt and an amplifie alsor that I bought and had upgrades done to before it even came to me and that to was damaged thank god I repaired that here at home because they mysteriously lost they yaesu in the claims center in Arizona after a few months of batteling with them. They all of a sudden lost the radio and its so called tracking numbers also mysteriously were not showing valid or good.

Anyways any of you that have did any deals with me know I will not ever ship with UPS again. You want to have fun google search UPS insurance fraud and see what pops up. The problem from what Ive read at one time was they use little insurance companies from out of the country and just try and collect or get help with a compant fraud that from out of the good old US of A.

I know that if I ever had to use UPS for whatever reason the purchaser will be paying a packing fee to UPS packaging service themselves because Ill never go through what I did years back again. It was never settled through UPS the place that rebuilt the radio reimbursed me what they could because of feeling bad over the mess that was created and several hours wasted in trying to resolve it and getting nowhere but jerked around.

I USE 2-3 DAY PRIORITY USPS!!!! And with excellent success ;)

UPS

I have had my times with UPS, and had some long delays in filing a claim, but it came thru after a loooong time.

I just use USPS now and insure it, and have had very few problems, and if I use a shipper I use FEDEX, they toss the package much lighter than UPS<just joking>.

When I order an item I always in bold letters with a marker specific put down DO NOT USE UPS...

When I purchase online I shop sites that ship USPS even if I had to pay more but it's never more in shipping.

Using styrofoam peanuts is really a poor idea unless it is used when putting one box inside another. NEVER use styrofoam peanuts loose in a box with your goods. The goods will settle out because they are heavier and will migrate to the inside of the box wall and can be easily damaged. The best bet is to use either rigid styrofoam or foam cushioning or bubble wrap inside the first box and then place that box into another box with styrofoam peanuts or other cushioning. My favourite is the idiots that roll up a few sheets of newspaper and expect it to protect delicate electronic gear. A buddy of mine won an auction on Ebay for a Kenwood TL-922 amplifier. It came with the tubes wrapped in newspaper and stuffed in a box. The chassis still had the transformer in it and the whole thing was in a box packed with balled up newspaper. Ironically the tubes were still good but the amp took a nasty beating. Lots of choice swear words and a few tears and bruised and skinned knuckles later we had everything in half decent shape. The problem is that everything looked good on the outside of the box and he signed off on the delivery before he inspected it which was a couple days later.

My big issue with USPS insurance is that in the event of damage to a piece of antique equipment, when you make a claim, they expect you to hand them a paper from a dealer showing what repairs or replacement will cost. How are you supposed to do this with a 50 year old radio??? I went thru this with a FT200 that they damaged. It was repairable, and needed some parts. I made a claim, showing them a printout of used parts available on Ebay, and the postal inspector said they only take documentation from the manufacturer for replacement parts!!! Needless to say, they denied the claim, and I got nothing but a broken radio.
UPS has been lots better in honoring a claim for me.

Speaking of newspaper, get this......
I just received a 26 amp supply from CMT Trading Co. from California, in came in a used shipping box, no manufactures box, no manual, no invoice and just plain old wades of newspaper!!.
In this case, I was really surprised that the supply was not damaged, especially coming through UPS.

I haven't shipped anything through UPS now for the last 5 yrs - it's strictly USPS from now on - to many damaged packages from the Brown trucks.

I have also seen several company's in last few years, that have dropped the Brown trucks and went thru either Fedx or USPS.

i bought a 1903 turkish mauser on gunbroker a few years ago. when it arrived at my ffl, the box was crinkled and the stock was broke in half right at the pistol grip. i filed a claim with usps for the $100 insurance value and they denied it. screw usps. i use fedex for all my shipping needs anymore.
