Something INSANELY cheap...for the protection it provides.... is a lightbulb limiter (Like Shadetree used!). Use them a lot in amplifier repair but, anywhere you have things with electrolytic caps, or youve done a recap, or have suspicions that something might be shorted internally..... this takes all the worry away.
