Was given a small Vibratrol amp. Model number not present but looks exactly like the RFL 301 as shown at rigpix.com

Will test it on air in a few days to see if it works. Don't have a VHF wattmeter at the moment but can determine if it works with the over-the-air test.

Question is, it has a main larger on/off switch and a 2nd smaller slide switch on front arranged vertically. Anyone know if this is a RX preamp? Or otherwise know what the function is?

Indeed, it just switches in a C to delay the falling off of the rx/tx relay.
I have the bigger brother sprouting 2 x the MRF 247 transistors, reworked the bias circuit which wasn't present in the original one, just hard wired FM amp.
With those changs the amp with 40 watts in goves 160 - 180 watts out.
But then as far i can see mine is a larger box, the same form but looking alike.
Check innards or post piccie of innards to get more data.
