I would assume the selector took a dump. If there's a repair for it you'll definitely find that info here. If there's no fix I'd venture to say there is probably a company that sells a replacement or replacement parts. Sorry I couldn't help. Good luck
PS. I'll follow as I'm curious to as whether there is a fix 4 losing the detents on a channel selector. What's the brand and model of the rig?

usually there is a small ball bearing that is held in place by a tensioned piece of metal that provides the detent function.

you can see it in this pic (this is not necessarily what your selector looks like)

most likely yours has fallen out, and might be heard rattling around inside the radio.

Like above, this photo is an example of two common 23 ch selector switches. Both of these use a ball bearing that’s held in a socket. The leaf spring puts tension on the ball while it rides along a notched wheel. The notched wheel is the part that is providing the detents. Several things may have happened. Either the ball has become dislodged from its socket or the leaf spring has lost tension. I’ve also seen leaf springs dislodged from their holders. These problems usually happen when the notched wheels grease has dried up or contains debris. Inspect and clean all these parts. Hopefully you can find the ball if it’s missing. I’m not sure of the various ball size replacements for these. For me, that would be mater of trial and error. If the leaf spring is too weak to hold the ball in place, it can be removed and bent slightly to provide extra tension. Apply new grease to the notched wheel after it has been cleaned, but be careful not to get any grease on any selector contacts. I recommend Deoxit Gold on the contacts.
