voice of america cb club

Hi Doctor and everyone:
I hear about that "Club" back in the early 80's,mostly spanish speaking operators, trying to relay messages to comunities with no phone services, only with CB Radios, specially in Emergencies,flood,storms,hurricanes,etc...
They help to locate missing persons all over Latin America and the US.
They still around on 27.665 Mhz. USB and I believe in 27.795 Mhz. LSB too.
The Group Split (Conflict of Interest)in 2 diferent groups, making a big confusion with asigned Unit Numbers(Duplicates).
The cause or they're Goal was real good, very helpful, back them.
Now they still helping people, mostly on 27.665 USB.
Just don't get near that frecuency, they always run the Biggest Splatter Boxes in the Band, shame but they dunno better.
Also there is another part of the Group on 40 Meters around 7.090 Mhz. LSB.,with more educated and organize Ops.

Ahhhh...so THAT explains what I've been hearing on those two frequencies when skip's favoring the SW.

Question: How is Mexico's CB service structured - are the frequencies the same as those used by the U.S. service, or is a different band plan in place? If the former - are the folks operating on .665/.795 doing so illegally, and does the Mexican government care about such?

Hi N8YX:
Mexican Communication Department is more busy cutting deals on Asigning Spectrum Allocation to Private Parties, like Cellular,Pager's,etcc,Companies.
They normally don't check or monitor 11 Mts.,unless they get a big complain on Interference to Comercial or Private Communicatins Service.
We are rule as you are in USA on the 40 Channels,no Extra Power,No Power Microphones,No Directional Beams,in some Regions you must Register your Equipment, what is funny is that they will give you a permit to use a 2950 and may more 10 Meters Radios on 11 Mts,just depends who is in the office to aprove your equipment.
And operating out of band is ilegal in Mexico too,but have not heard of any case in almost 30 Years were individuals get busted for Out of Band.As long as they do not mess with 10 Meters , I guess fine.
You will hear on Shirmp Fishing Season for the Pacific(October) a lots of Boats transmiting all over,Comercial Bands,Ham Bands, name it,on 80,40,20,15,anywere LSB,USB,AM,FM,and they know that they are not easy to track because they are in the ocean along with other boats or in the same perimeter, and there is no effort from the Comission to follow up those complaints.
Funny but,you can meet many Hams in the Out of Band Frecuencies, sometimes or most of the time they even identified themselves, also they try to invite you to join the ham bands,90% of the new hams come from 11 Mts. in Mexico, and the Hobie for Ham Radio is Diying,if they aprove the "No Code" it might increase they're numbers.

Tecni,

Thanks for the reply - you also answered a lot of other questions regarding south-of-the-border operations which many have been asking.

I've been hearing quite a bit of Spanish in the 3410-3430 area; not broadcasters and from the sound of things looks to be a ragchew net...rather than a 'formal' one. Sadly, my Spanish stinks. Badly. I can pick a few words out here and there but cannot understand the entire conversation.

Are folks from down south using that range of frequencies on an active basis? Most of what I hear is in LSB, by the way...

Hi N8YX:
I'm glad that I can be a help on your questions.
Maybe what you are hearing on 75 Bellow could be a Private Frequency asign by the Goverment or Pirates.
I found many private conversations out band and in band, conduct in Spanish, even People in "Risky Bussiness",not all belong to Mexico,a lot of them from South and Central America too,the easy way you can tell is by the Slang.
Cellphone service still very expensive in this country and many Companies or Individuals are using HF,VHF,UHF,Radios with out permits, mostly in the South of Mexico.
Regarding the frecuencies in 11 Mts from :25.000 to 26.955 and 27.415 to 27.995 Mhz. is use in daily basis from DX QSO,private service "TAXIS",and ragchew.
A lot operators from Brasil use 24.000 and 25.000 Mhz,in any mode.
Thanks to all those cheap export to open more frecuencies.
