Since this thread started off with a 500w amp as the issue, I think that improving the wiring and adding a stiffening cap would help a lot.

But he didn't say what kind of antenna he was using either. If he did; I missed that part. Sure wouldn't want to run a 500w amp into anything smaller than a 1/4 wave steel whip or a Predator Freedom DX-K Fighting Stick. The antenna is always at the other end of the efficiency chain . . .
