I recently picked up a pretty nice VX-6R from a friend of mine. I found out he did a TX deviation/PL tone mod to bring up the audio on 70cm. The mod can be found here.Yaesu VX-6R Mods | Ninja Blogging. I listened to myself on 440mhz with my FT-857D in my truck and the little radio sounds just fine. I'm a worrier and don't wnt to be splattering across the band. Is it paranoid to have the deviation and PL tone realigned by Yeasu or better to leave it with the mod? I wish he knew the stock settings were. No other bands were modded. Thanks!

I'd also GREATLY appreciate anyone with a VX-6R who could bring up their service menu to see what their settings areat. I know each radio is different, but at least a ball park would be nice.

It's been quite a while since I had a VX-6R. That said, here's how you can tell if your VX-6 is over-deviating: The channel spacing used in many U.S. areas for 2m is 15khz. Use your mobile rig and set the frequency at 15 khz on one side of your HT's frequency and transmit with the HT. You will probably barely hear your HT's transmission when the two radios are set 15khz apart. However, you shouldn't anything if they're spaced 20Khz apart. If you do, it's time to turn that deviation back down on the VX-6r
