Thought I'd post here on this.

My wife bought me for Christmas a brand new Magnum 257 HP unmodified, and a friend of mine recently bought a Radioshack HTX-10 used from a fellow ham member from our local ham club. To my knowlege his radio is not modified.

Last weekend we made an attempt to rag chew on 28.400 USB just to try them out. There was a heck of a time keeping each other on frequency. It was a nice 24 degrees out. Both radios were cold. We even tried LSB on 28.400 but to no aval. Seems like we had to keep messing with the clarifier all the time.

Well yesterday I hear someone calling CQ on the radio as I stepped into my garage where my radio is now. It was 55 degrees. I key up and found it was my buddy calling. He was only 1/4 mile from me. After a few seconds he and I dialed each other in and the radios didn't drift off at all.

I have heard on some of the CB SSB rigs (Galaxy) they are known for drift until they warm up....supposedly according to all the reports my radio is supposed to be rock stable on SSB....what about the HTX-10? Are they known to be drifters on SSB?

I still can't figure out if it's his radio or mine...or both.

most radios will drift a little until they warm up, it might not be noticeable in most cases, but in really sold temps you will see it for sure.

Chances are that your 257HP could use an alignment (yes I realize it's new) as could you friend's radio.

When it is really cold, my 257HP does take a while to warm up and be on frequency. I've had the alignment checked, and it is good once at operating temp. I do not have that problem with my Lincoln. It seems happy, hot or cold.
