i was on another forum and someone made a comment that the weather boards in cb's detract from the radios performance . i have a 78ltw and im very happy with it and i feel its a better unit than the export it replaced . ive herd of the weather board's size limiting the echo boards than can fit in them but never about them adversly affecting the tx/rx of a radio .

anyone herd of this b4 ?
i think its just bad info being passed along , but i dont know for sure.............

I would wonder what that 'weather board' was taking the place of, if it was detracting from performance. What did 'they' remove to put the thing in there? I would have to think that it may just be 'wishful thinking' rather than any huge degradation in performance. As for -any- radio being possibly better than it is, that's one of 'those' things that can be said for -any- radio... "If they'd only done this instead of that.", kind'a thingy. You can 'improve' anything if you want to bad enough. The question is, is it worth the effort? Not having that radio, this is all conjecture, so take it for what it's worth.

from what i can tell it doesnt take the place of anything . its just a daughter card that connects to the main board to add the weather function and some switching on the front controlls .

thanks doc. just wanted to be sure i didnt miss something somewhere . ;)

The weather board DOES NOT ! take away from anything in given radio. It will not change performance and it will tune and mod up with the best of them , no difference. If anything , in many states , having a weather banded radio can come in very handy. I'd say a nice little extra for many.

I disabled the weather board in one of my Cobra 29's because I couldn't get the WX reception out of the AM receive. The WX switch was probably bad, but I didn't care enough to fix it and it was simpler to just disconnect the wire. I've never come across that problem again, however.

Same thing I have heard several times there Mole, after some mods you hear the weather faintly all the time. I would say thats a slight problem.
