Just a guess, but that "longggggg trimmer" may be a 5 kc jump. I've seen something like that done in a Cobra 132 XLR.

Or it could be something to have switchable "broadbanding" of the VCO if its proximity to that circuit is any clue.

Only real way to find out for sure is to trace the wires controlling the relay next to it and flip that switch to see what happens.

The rest of it, no idea. The smarter people that hang out here will probably have some more ideas.
