I've been on the forum now for a number of years now and as many of you already know, weather play hell on radio equipment here. The winds primarily as I just recently lost another antes to the wind. Severe weather such as tornadoes squal line storms with lots of wind shear or down drafts are other players here during late spring and early summer months that antennas don't fair well against. We get our fair share of weather phenomenon. This short article puts Amarillo Tx as the big player for hail as I already know but I didn't realize we take the lead in the Lonestar.

It's kind of hobby related. I had an antenna beat to death from baseball size hail several years ago.

We don't get tornadoes here, but we do get our fair share of high winds, I've lost a couple antennas over the years.

If we ever got snow or hail here, I think it would be the 1st time in recorded history. Climate is too temperate for that. BUT we do get high winds often. When a big T-storm approaches the wind out of the valley blows big time. Lost my 2-element quad, A99, and 5/8ths dipole several years ago. Also lost the roof on my shack and could only watch while the rain soaked all my equipment. Only positive was it gave me a reason to get rid of all my junk. New roof (professionaly installed.) Antennas guy-wired. Fingers crossed that it don't happen again.

I just finished re-installing my solar and antennas after getting a re-roof. Lots of work. In the yard I keep the pieces of my old home built 20M moxon as a reminder of the storm that turned it into a pretzel. Man I miss that antenna.

A few weeks ago a huge hail storm just missed us but was so strong that it destroyed cars and homes.

I have noticed that the solar cycle plays into the big hail storms, same for the winter ice storms, but can't put my finger on the exact place in the cycle.
