why bother with a recorder???

just buy/construct an interface (like a PSK interface) and use your PC to record and (GASP!!!!!!) transmit any sound file.

PS,.................... I have a KILLER roger GONG!

or run the audio through your PC (line in or microphone input) then any simple recording software will save it as a file, (wav or mp3 or ogg) just make sure the input volume levels are not too high or too low, too high and it will sound distorted and too low and you wont hear it well, usually around 50 to 60 % is good

I use YT downloader to copy sound files off YT...but have not figured out how to use it to record my contacts or others contacts...or shoot-outs. :)

Are you talking about using a mic or a direct interface?

Some will use a web camera hooked up to their computer. So long as you have enough light in the radio room, they work just fine for a $40 video camera - if that is what you mean. The audio is OK too. Fortymobile (aka"4040") uses a real hand-held video camera on a mount. That, and a YouTube account.

I use a cheap web cam - and it works just fine.
From there, I got a free YouTube account and post my stuff up there.
Really easy to do.

There are lots of ways to do it; what did you have in mind?

directly, plug the external speaker line from the radio to the input on the computer, i do it often, CB is mono so you only get one channel but with the right software you can merge it with both channels so the recorded audio will be on both speakers

Audacity is a good one Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

mhwaveedit is good too but only runs in Linux & BSD Index of /mhwaveedit

bad idea:thumbdown:,.... thats WHY I mentioned an interface.

they eliminate humm caused by ground loops,.... they have an opto-isolator to prevent the power supply in the computer from "seeing" the radio.:)

I use an audio isolation transformer (1:1) for this reason, just cut the cord in two and solder it in. Only cost about $1 or $2

NCH 'DEBUT" software is great for use with a webcam , also has many different file formats you can record in .
it can be used as freeware ( have to reinstall every 30 days ) or the purchased version
