I purchased a juiced up competition cb radio from a shop.
They have informed me the radio will work better if I use it with a 4 pill.
I don't see much for discussion about these "pills"?
Please. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jimbo

"Pills" are power transistors that typically have the appearance of a large white tablet, hence the name.

As to the compatibility of your "juiced up" radio, Brand, model and output info is needed to answer that.

Yupp them pills would be the round white final output transistors in the amplifier the more Transistors (Pills) the more power output.

Big juiced up radio

The CB radio I am working with is a Cobra Black Chrome rebuilt by Doug at Custom CB Radios.

He says,
" This radio has... * RFX-75 Replacement Final Section Over 100 watts of swing!! * Switchable High/Low Power * Swing Kit for max modulation * I have replaced 5 different caps to improve the performance of the Audio and Transmit * I upgraded the cap at the power input of the radio to help with noise * I gave the radio my receive upgrade that gives you a 30% increase in receive. * This radio is very sensitive on receive you will just be amazed at what you can hear with this radio. This radio is made to run your big amp (4 pill or more) and will sound fantastic. Most of the time you don't need a driver with this radio. If it did not say Cobra on the front you would not know it was one.

I have at times been able to talk to CB-ers as far away as Texas with this radio without using a linear.

RFX-75 are nice little addons but becarefull you dont abuse it or it wont last long  I would keep it around 75 watts and you will be fine once you start pushing them they will fail pretty darn quick.

I am getting 65 watts out of the radio as it sets right now. Doug shows the RFX-75 getting over 100 watts with this same radio. I am wondering why I am only getting the 65 watts?

Were you guys using the same radio to drive the amplifiers? Also were you both using the same meters and antenna setup? An antenna can make a difference how efficiant an amplifier works aswell as the tuning of each radio, microphone, Power wire and power and ground hookup.

Same radio. But totally different set ups. Although my SWR is only 1.2. My multimeter went awry and I'm looking a new one. Any advice on which multimeter I should invest in?
