Whats the Difference the Uniden Grant (looks like a President Grant) & the Grant XL

Ok...I might have made a mistake but I found a Philly made Uniden Grant for $59 so I bought. It has the face of a President Grant. So my question is...what is the difference between the Grant and Grant XL? Does it have the same chasis? Does this Grant have the same Tx/Rx abilities as the XL? I was so excited to get a Grant for $59 I didn't realize it wasn't a Grant XL. Thanks in advance.

I know the Grant-XL and 148gtl have the same board as well as the Cobra 2000GTL. Not sure of the regular Grant.

Thanks mrgumby...this informs me that I have a Uniden Grant which is the transitional President Grant, but labeled Uniden. It has the 192 channel capable MB8719 PLL.

OK...how does this Uniden compare to the Grant XL?

Thanks all...now Question #2: I will be recieving my Uniden Grant in the next couple of days...I want to send it out for a full tune up...so who do you recommend to have it tuned up etc. I don't want a chop shop but someone who is familiar with these radios. Thanks.

less mods than WHAT??? grants are amongst the MOST modifiable radios ever built. as mentioned, some of the 1st UNIDEN grants, silver-faced president grant look-alikes, still had the 858 chassis, it went over to the 8719 design, then was morphed into the famous uniden grant xl.

Well...since this original post...I now have a very nice Uniden Grant XL Philly radio. Now my decision starts...which to use?

you have a unique opportunity here.

you have two radios which are basically identical on the inside as far as design goes.

you can mod the audio on one and compare it to the stock one and see which one people think sounds better.

just dont tell them which is which! LOL
