Dang! I thought it was a comparison between chain-link and a 'Tom Sawyer' fence.
- 'Doc

('Tom Sawyer' fence is one that needs painting.)

(and my 'age' is starting to show. Couldn't think of 'monopole' for anything.)

Length from radial mount to bend is 7'7".

I thought 2M, but a website gave the above formula.

A folded monopole is usually a 1/4 wave antenna. I'd say this is a lower VHF antenna.

I was given one of those that looked exactly the same (well, from what I can tell of the pics). I didnt know what band it was for, and thats what my local tech said(probably lower vhf band)

I Googled (you knew I would):

"phelps dodge" antenna

and from what I found, a company called "Cellwave" bought Phelps-Dodge. Most of the hits had to do with repeater antennas, and a lot of them were in the 2M range. I'd guess you have the antenna from a former VHF repeater.

Phelps Dodge was bought by Celwave, who was bought by RFS (Radio Frequency Systems). Still one of the best antenna manufacturers to date! This antenna is no longer supported.
