I wonder if anyone could've imagined how far radio Communications would've gone.
What was cutting edge back in the late 70's? Miss cb had no idea. Dig the Farrah Fawcett hairdo. I think I saw her on Match Game 78.

Not a lot different except fewer people on the air. In the 1970's I talked to Wolfman Jack. He was an old time famous DJ and guest appeared in some movies.

I started with a walki talki channel 14. I could only listen. A guy called super trooper was a couple miles away.

Looks like the Aussie mag. I have a stack of them in the garage. I go through them every so often.

yes back in the day. We had CB Action and it's sister publication Amateur Radio Action. Both are long gone but I kept all my ARA for reference.

Not a lot different except fewer people on the air. In the 1970's I talked to Wolfman Jack. He was an old time famous DJ and guest appeared in some movies.

Who doesn't know Wolfram Jack? I'm old enough to know who he is but to young to remember him spinning records. In American Graffiti he basically play's himself and shares a popsicle with a very young Richard Dreyfuss. In the movie I believe he was located somewhere out in the Mojave. Was he a cb'er? Is that where you spoke to him?

Radio station XERB. Yup; listened to him at my friends house; we all (my pre-high school peer group of friends) used to listen to him at night when the signal made up my way North from him. He was a legend to us well after he became a legend a decade before.

My friend wanted an old tube Magnavox radio w/SW. so his Dad got him one for his 12th b'day. Beautiful old radio, and 'da Wolfman' played cool music and made you laugh. No different from his role in the movie 'American Graffiti'.



But where do we go from here? Keep radio alive until a new generation finds out why it is cool. Sure, cell phones are very nice and you can dial anyone up in N.America in a heartbeat. But it is all so dependent on the network; and radio is a standing entity; independent. Free. Connects to your neighborhood/town/city/county/state/region/country/continent.

We might consider help making it cool again by not pushing it, and let them think it was their idea for rediscovering it. We also keep a means to connect others in a local emergency, as any radio op who is connected to others in a given area can still connect with others - CB or Ham. In particular - both is often the case, as many Hams in my area also keep CB radio alive and healthy.
