Does anyone know of a person that will fix this little 2 meter rig Burghardt and Amateur electronic Supply both do not service these it has a low output and I can smell that it has something that had gotten warm (HOT) it recieves and Transmits yet but only at 1-2 watts. It was a nice little radio and I will give it to my kids to use providing I can get it fixed Im sure its an easy fix for someone good with these type of radio. Any help appreciated.....Tony

Actually Kenwood made the HTX-212 for Radio Shack. It is based on the Kenwood TM-221/231/241 series radio. I forget exactly which model but they are all similar. I remember a former co-worker showing me his "Kenwood HTX-212" or his "Radio Shack TM-221" whichever he called it:thumbup:. I paused for a moment and thought WTF are you talking about and then it hit me as soon as I saw the radio. :headbang

Icom made the HTX-202/404 handhelds for Radio Shack however.

REPAIR

If my memory recalls...RatShack usually takes them and sends off for repairs to some outfit in Cleveland, Ohio, I believe a number of years ago, I had a 2 mtr radio and the local store sent it off, repaired it and sent back for $55.

This 212 actually a nice lttle mobile and I want to have it fixed if any of you find someone or know someone that will work on them please let me know through a PM if need be I just want it fixed.

The mic is a bit screwy but I found a place that made replacements they just didnt have the push buttons they were just a standard mic with the modular (telephone style plug) end on them I hope I still have the link to the site but Ill worry about that if I can get this unit repaired.

I still need this Radio Shack HTX-212 2 meter radio fixed if anyone knows who will repair it let me know please it has low output like 1 watt or so is where it has dropped to I believe if I remember correctly. Thanks ....Tony

Did you try to replace the final transistor?
I'm no radio repair guru; but I've repaired some radios that showed a 1 watt output with success. Won't say that it will fix it; but if you have the part and the time - maybe you could give it a try.

Just curuious...

something got hot in this biaaaatch one night when I was talkin on it. I think it was a resistor or diode or something I looked in the radio one day.

Tony, this is a business here in Cali that will fix it for you:

Turner Radio
42541 6th Street East Suite 8
Lancaster, Ca. 93535.
M-F 10am-5pm Pacific Time
(661) 945-9097
email: k6aru@cwo.com

I know several people that have had equipment repaired here...it's a real radio repair shop. HRO out here sends their repair equipment over there.

I have no affiliation with them, but if you decide to use them, it would be cool if you tell them that you got the referral from this site. :)
