I have seen various threads as to the mother of all radios...the time period that interest me most would be the 70-80's era. It can be 23 channel or 40channel. It can be am or am/ssb. With this criteria laid down...which radio from your experience has the best voice/ears of that time period. I await your thoughts.

that leaves a big gray ares ..do you mean a legal fcc approved cb radio a ten meter export radio hf radio ..wanna narrow that down a little

for a legal 40 channal radio I would say the uniden grant

Good point mrgumby...lets leave the exports out of the equation.

23 channel......
Courier spartan, or Gladiator
Tram Diamond 60 Am/SSB
Tram Diamond 40
Midland 882, or 888

40 Channel
Any of the Presidents or Cobras

exports
Ranger
Any Uniden chassis radio

All Time favorite 148GTLDX

Edit: I see you changed it as I was typing, still going to leave it the same....

Basic best answer is any of the Uniden built radios Culminating with Grant XL Cobra 148GTL Though the latter is getting pretty near the end of your specs...
