Break , was wondering if you fellows could help me out on these radios? I am powering back up , been out for a while , back in the moonraker 4 , golden eagles 3 and 4 , and big linear days , and if you had a galaxy mobile you was loud and proud, but all these new numbers and versions have made the water muddy! I am looking at the following ; DX959 ,,94HP,,,, 98VHP,,, i am going to run a predator 10K , and maybe later use a 250 Texas star kicker ,, any advice mods , also where is the place to buy???? Radioactive talks big,, but I have not talked to ANYBODY who likes them. Thank you!!!

Id say if your gonna run the 250 behind it, just get the 959. If not, get the 98V and be done w/it. Aloha, James....

First of all, Do not get a Galaxy 959, And if ya get the 98vhp do not run a small amp with that. That radio is capable of doing 300 wts. And Radio Active is a hack shop. Do not go to them. You mention Coal so i figured State of Ky. or close, You have GI Joe Radios, Sparky's CB Shack, Bob's CB Shop, DTB Radios, All of these that I have mentioned do have a web site. The 94hp is a good choice, Again do not run a small amp with that one either. The 94 could do 120 wts. Hope this is helpful. An older Galaxy 99 in great shape makes a darn good mobile.

Run away from RadioActiveRadio.
Run as fast as you can.
Run, run, run . . .

The Radio Shop/Chris Holland and The Preacherman for mods and repair.
Xlnt.
If you are looking for a Galaxy; then you are thinking AM - and they are fine for that.
But for SSB, think Magnum or RCI for starters. Ranger or Galaxy are a bit weak in the SSB dept; but they will work somewhat OK.

Thank you sir, I have been seeing a lot of good talk about the magnums , but man they just look weird and unfamiliar to me , lol but I Anit in it for pretty , just want to talk and be loud and clear!!

Btw how would I go about figuring out which predator 10k shaft I would need ? Mobile truck is a 03 ford supercrew , it's big and tall , my cab is approx 8 ft high , I was what would be my best bet for mounting as well, would hate to knock that sucker off going down the road!!!

First of all, I would choose the roof; the highest point of the vehicle with all of the metal below it is best. Since you are going to run power, a puck mount and a 17 inch shaft 10k will insure a solid ground. You will still have problems with certain low hanging branches and such; that is just the nature of that beast.

My vehicle is 5 1/2 ft and I run a 6 1/2 ft antenna (Sirio Z-180) on a mag mount and I have more than a few problems with height.
Deal with that as it comes.

the magnum s9 wiorks very much like the galaxy 99 but its

chris holland -great with magnums
any of there are great choices
for 10k id get either a 12 or 17 inch shaft on the roof

I've got a 949 with TS 350 and it's a talking SOB. made numerous SSB and AM contacts once I got it tuned in, which took me about 2 weeks of tinkering and interweb research including asking questions on here. It's a refurb and I'd call it an "entry level" SSB capable radio. Does drift a bit on SSB but I unlocked the clarifier myself last night and made several DX contacts with it today. Running a wilson 2000 bolted on the truck bed with the center load just over the cab.

Thank you hotrod ! Which S9 are you referring to? S9 50w. Or the S9 175w. ?? Also why would I be able to run the TS 500 w. On the magnum and on on galaxy 94hp?? Reason I ask is I have got info on the 94hp "no amp" but then I find other people who say it's perfect for hitting a good 4 pill , so what what is the factor that decides this?? I would think it would be as to where your dead key is set, am I wrong on this one ? Or does it have to do with the MOSFET finals ? I have never had anything with MOSFET so that's uncharted waters for me ..
