What radio would be better to get? i ask this cause i have a chance to get a new in the box never used galaxy dx99v NOT factory refurbished for $250.00

For that price range, I would go with a Magnum OmegaForce HP or a RCI 2970. At least, I would know that the radio isn't going to drift on SSB.
I have and use a 99V, but the drifting is a royal PITA. Once it warms up - it is nice. But if you live in a cold climate - forget it!

Go with the magnum! The Galaxy 99V along with the Galaxy 88 have a known problem with their oscillator on SSB (They can have a warble sound). Even if you were a AM user your still paying for the extras like SSB so wouldnt you want to know that it all atleast works.
I think the Magnum S9 wins hands down. The Galaxy 99 was a great old warrior and in it's day was an exellent radio. Both the 88 & 99 drift like a sailboat though. I would say even the Magnum Delta and omega Force radio's can outperform the Galaxy 99.
Remember to have a good tech properly tune whichever one you do get. You only sound as good as the tech is that worked on your radio. Too many people try to save 10-20 bucks and end up with a CharlieBob clip and tune special.

who do you think is the best at tuning the magnum s9 radio? i live in arizona so anyone close to my state? what about radioactive radio's?
Nah, don't go to Radioactive Radios. You will never hear the end of it from some of the guys on this forum.

i had a s9 when they first came out. it was a piece of shit. absolutely no adjacent channel rejection. stock radios 4 blocks away 2 channels away would completely wipe my receive out.
sold it on ebay for a nice $90 loss on a 2 week old radio.

Sorry bout your luck I guess. Magnums are great radio's unless you let someplace like RadioHacktive touch em. I bought a mint used one from Yota that was done up By Bobs cb, it was outstanding. I wish I would have kept it.
I bought mine untouched by human hands post packaging so I guess mine 4th one should be the charm?
