need a radio for my jeep, i already have the cobra 29 WX NW ST, but its a too expensive radio for my jeep that gets rained in and always has the top off so someone can steel it, so im selling it to the trucking company i work at to put in one of their trucks. so ive found three radios i would get, which one would be the best?

cobra 19DXIV WalcottCB.com: Cobra 19DXIV 40 Channel CB Radio with PA Horn Jack

midland 1001Z Midland 1001Z Miniature Mobile CB Radio

uniden pro520xl WalcottCB.com: Uniden PRO520XL Compact CB Radio with PA Jack

OR if i really feel like spending a little more money i was considering the uniden pro538w WalcottCB.com: Uniden PRO538W CB Radio W. Weather, Front Mounted Speaker

it'll be matched with a wilson 2000 trucker antenna and im not sure what brand coax i think it might be radioshack, thanks for the help guys

i was leaning towards that or the midland because i read complaints online about the cobra screen being too dark in the middle, and a couple people said the transmitting range sucked with firestick antennas and a good SWR

Transmit range is going to be the same on all of these from the factory...All CBs are spec'd to do the same exact thing on TX output power per FCC regulations. Receive will be a different story, however. I haven't used that midland, so I can't comment on that.

out of those three radios, i'd go with the uniden. it's ugly (nobody will steal it, lol), with a good tune they're good talkers (considering what they are) and they're cheap. even brand new one's can be had for less than 50 bucks at a truck stop. ebay is chock full of them, as well. i have a midland 5001z and it's a great little radio (copy of a cobra 25), but i don't know anything about the 1001z. give the uniden a try. i don't think you'll regret it. just my 2 pennies.

i might just keep the cobra, can someone give me step by step instuctions on how to peak and tune it, ive never done it before and would like to. ive read things online about how to peak and tune the 29ltd but idk if thats got the same board? plus they're not clear at all to a newbie

like on a website i see cobra 29a, 29xlr, 29gtl, 29ltd, 29ltd classic, 29ltd gold, 29 plus, how do i know which one has the same board as my 29 NW ST WX? also what does it mean when it says things like cut D11 or just says VR4 or L12, L13, L14?

sorry about all this ive opened up the inside of radios but never once tried to peak and tune them

Have you thought about what kind of antenna to use? Don't skimp on the antenna, it is the single most important factor in how well the system will perform.

Are you going to use the radio in a vehicle or at home?

wilson trucker 2000 antenna, mounted on the back of a jeep wrangler, its a nice little radio, seems to get out as far as the cobra, but ofcourse i want to get out father, anyone know anything on this radio? its a great fit for a jeep it takes up less than half the space of the cobra 29, ofcourse i didnt used the midland mic i used my cobra m75 power mic
