The wilson 1000 antenna magnet mount (radio and amp are both chassis gounded) is an awesome antenna, i havent touched a cb since 98 and i liked k40s my cobra 148f gtl is faithful and just such a fine radio anyways that antenna the swr is flat 1 thru 4o and barely wiggled at 27605 which is higher than i go anyways, down low maybe got to a 1:2 wow thats good

Did you have to trim the whip at all? I ask because I have a magnet mount 1000 that just won't go below about 1.6:1 no matter how the whip is positioned. Top, bottom, middle it just won't drop the SWR.

Coax and connector is fine and there is nothing visibly wrong with the loading coil. Magnet is strong and makes for a good connection. Only thing is the protective foil on the bottom of the antenna is missing.

I bought a new Wilson 1000 a couple of weeks ago and just slid the whip in the base all the way down and pulled it up just a little and tightened the screws and my SWRs were no more then 1.2:1

It seems that the new Wilson antennas are hit or miss with QC, I just helped a local friend who was having the same issue you describe, couldnt get the vswr down below 1,6-1.7, he tried 2 brand new Wilson 5000 base load antennas with a hard mount and both of the new antennas would not tune below 1.6 swr, tried an old Wilson 5000 I had that is probably about 10 years or more old and with after cutting about 1/4", we were able to get about a flat vswr reading on 27.185, and it stayed within 1.1-1.2 across the whole 11m meter band. Both of the new Wilson 5000's he had were brand new as well. Quality just isn't the same!

I would suggest a Siro 5000PL. The older Wilsons were ok but the new Wilsons fall way short. I switched from the Wilson to the Siro and it was day and night difference. There isn;t much price differnce bewteen the two antennas. But if you are getting a goos match than that is what counts.
