This is just for information...

I recently got a KG-UV6D, I'm happy with it. But happened to notice a few differences between it and the KG-UV2D that I've had for some time. Nothing really earth shattering, just different.
The '6' is slightly larger (width, depth), has an additional button on the front, and the antenna is slightly longer. The case is finished a bit different, nothing really exceptional about that, just nothing 'shiny'. Same old FM broadcast radio and flashlight. And the programming software is VERY different. You do NOT want to try programming the '6' with any software except the one designated for it! There's a warning in the box with the radio, you can't miss it, and you'd better pay attention to it.
Nothing you haven't already heard about so far.
The biggy that I've found is the difference in the supplied antenna. I didn't think a 1/2 inch longer and slightly different shaped rubberduck would make any difference, just another 'style'/cosmetic thingy, you know? It does make a difference thought, it's slightly 'better' than the 'duck' supplied with the prior versions of the HTs. Nothing hugely drastic, but slightly better range or reception. All I have to make comparisons with it performance when sitting on my front porch. (Now that's gotta be a significant way of doing it, ain't it?) I found that using either the 'UV-6D' or the 'UV-2D' snd that new antenna, I could hit a couple of repeaters that were not 'hit-able' when using the old antenna. I tried swapping the antennas several times and the new one kept getting the 'cigar'. That was on both VHF and UHF, by the way.
I don't think that alone is worth running out and getting a KG-UV6D, but I might start looking for a replacement Wouxun 'duck' of the new type.
So there's the 'earth shattering' news of the day!

I was looking into getting a new antenna for the KG-UV6D something a little longer better etc.I noticed it works better when I am mobile or out-side but I guess this is normal. I was also looking at mobile mag mount fo 30.00 or so to use mobile.
