Wouxun KG-UV920R

The UV 920R mobile is a disappointment for me, Ive seen several videos on Youtube, not in English, but you can see the functions of the radio, and it's basically the same as my UV 6X Wouxun HT. There are no functions in the menu outside of Crossband that are not on my HT. Everything is buried in the menu including the most important feature, the Squelch control is in the menu.

So if you want to bump the squelch there is no knob or dial to tighten it up, you have to dig into the menu and the Squelch number goes 0 to 9 which really sucks , I have it on my HT and don't care for it at all, but it works for what I paid for it.

I'm looking to get the Kenwood TM V71A which is a full 50 WATTS on BOTH VHF and UHF bands. The Kenwood also has Echolink, it has WIRELESS REMOTE CONTROL so you can REMOTE the radio via your HT. You can Remote the crossband, change power, memory, frequency, turn crossband off or on remotely, and so much more. There is no comparison between the Wouxun Mobile, and the Kenwood, or the Yaesu for that matter.

The Kenwood TM V71A can be had for $369 , why would anyone pay $350 for this Wouxun rig ? The Kenwood also has an optional Voice module which also can record and playback QSO"s etc, and do a VOICE ID of your station if you need it for when you crossband repeat....

If this Wouxun was $150 or $175 I'd buy one just to kicks, but it cant even come close the a Yaesu, or Kenwood, or the Icom's..... and the price difference is outrageous.....

I'll buy the TM V71A at least it has REAL dual squelch knobs, and wireless remote, plus echolink, just to name a few, and it will receive like 108 to 999 mhz, (cellular blocked) and full 50 watts on both VHF, and UHF...Also with the Kenwood you can pick up a nice Heil mic and with the adapter cable you can use the Heil mic if you want to run the radio as a base radio with big time audio.... Kinda sounds like I like the TM V71A.... I do..

Also how about service? You can sent the Yaesu or Kenwood in for a fix if need be and get it back in 10 days or less. Or..if the problem is really bad most vendors will just exchange it for another one early on... This is something to consider on this Wouxun for the amount of money they are asking, if it breaks what do you do? Call China up and tell the guy you need it fixed maybe......

Wouxun has one feature, a crossband repeat, and I'm really not impressed for the money they want for it, I doubt it will sell here in the US.......

Ok so theres my 2 cents... look at all the Youtube videos and see for yourself....Check out the menu.. $150 Maybe... $389 Never happen ...

Wouxun no xband repeater repeat, No after sales service

Just bought the overpriced Wouxun KG-uv920r. X-band repeat works ok, but only in simplex, so you can't access your local repeater on xband if you are down in a hole doing, say a search & rescue. I bought from a shop 888, & have sent my kg-uv6p back twice for warranty repairs, both over 4 months with no fix.

Never again will I buy cheap chinese (not so cheap KG-920r), no after sales service, very difficult to operate, for a few more $$ , get the major, decent brands, Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom, at least the radio's are good & good after sales service.
Anyone wanna buy my KG-UV920 for a reasonable offer with software?

I like the Kenwood for a few more dollars, mostly because it can be operated in the crossband mode remotely. You can turn on the crossband , adjust frequency, power, etc, all from a remote hand held... I looked into the Wouxon mobile but even though it's a nice radio, and has a lot of features I prefer the Kenwood for my particular needs. I don't mind paying a little more plus I know I can get service for it here in the US.

Sorry to hear that your Wouxon mobile had issues...
