Talk about a bunch of greedy bastards!

Starting April 19, for sellers without a Store subscription, the Standard Final Value fee rate for Auction-style listings will not change, but will be applied to the total amount of the sale, including shipping. The number of free Auction-style listings per month will be capped at 50, with maximum Final Value Fee of $100.

I was wondering when EBay would do something. I've found items for $1.00 with a $50.00 shipping charge for normal delivery! I guess that is the way to get around paying the higher sale percentage. The other thing that drives me crazy is seller's having shipping fee's (i.e., $8.00) for a very small item and mail it normal mail verses USPS Priority Mail. I can't tell you how many sales I have passed up because I felt the shipping charge was a rip-off.

I went and found the article. I agree with them this time. have seen items that I package and ship for 14.99 and others gets 25.00 and more.

I agree. I can't tell you how many items I bought (until I stopped based on shipping costs) that charged over $10.00 and the actual postage was under $2.00. The "shipping and handling" has really been abused.

the downside of this is that it encourages legitimate sellers to pick the absolute cheapest form of shipping the item.

we all know that good packing and shipping are a make or break when it comes to receiving a radio that still looks like it did when it was shipped.

personally, i hate sellers that try to skimp on the shipping method or packing materials.

i am done with ebay. have been for a while now. sure, i will still buy things from people who arent sick of it yet, but im not selling anything on there.

someone with some capitol and computer knowledge needs to start a radio hobby related ebay type site.
it would be like an online swap meet, but with everyone looking at your table at the same time, there would be bidding wars.
whoever starts this could charge a modest ad fee, and make a killing.
oh, and piss ebay RIGHT off.

I'm not sure I actually agree with that statement. I have no problem paying the actual costs - but it really is out of hand. I recently sold a Heathkit HW-8, LDG AutoTuner, Heathkit Electronic Key and Heathkit Speaker (all separate auctions). As far as packing material - the wife gets a lot of stuff via the net so we have always saved all the packing material, etc. and used it to make sure everything was securely packed. So far, we have never had a problem with something breaking. I found that "common sense" when packing makes all the difference. I only charged for the actual USPS Priority Shipping. If I had a real expensive item I would probably put a reserve on it to make sure my costs are covered. Yea, I know - you might not sell it - but if that is the case - that is just the way it goes. We will see how this new EBay policy works out.

I've had some things listed in the forum here to sell. Not much luck really. When I ship something I pack it in bubble wrap and a studdy box. I make sure the item doesn't shake aroung or move. I try to get people to insure their package. When there is money left over from the actual shipping cost I put it twords insurance.

I must be nuts TexasOutlaw cause I just paid for the insurance. Why? It just made me feel better if it got damaged in shipping. I probably would have listed it as an option but I had enough trouble just figuring out how to get the stuff listed. Heck, one time I forgot to specify shipping and it came up as free shipping!

When I sell on eBay, the shipping price I quote always includes insurance. And I can't tell you the number of people who try and get me to drop it to save them some money, but I always refuse. In fact, after I get one of those I usually add that user to the Prohibited Bidders list because I know they're going to cause trouble.

As a seller, it's your responsibility to get the item into the buyer's hands. The buyer has absolutely no control over how or when the item gets shipped, so the whole "Hey, I shipped it so it's the buyer's problem now" routine doesn't work. eBay and Paypal agree and will yank the money out of your account when the buyer claims he never received it.

The reason I stick people who don't want to pay insurance into the Prohibited Bidders list is these are the crooks who will take your stuff then claim they never received it to get a refund. I've seen it happen many times. At least with insurance, when one of these scumbags tries to cheat you, eventually you'll get your money back from USPS/UPS/whatever.

So remember, shipping insurance is not for the buyer - it protects the seller. And as a seller if you willingly waive the insurance and choose to run naked and unprotected, then don't whine and cry when a dishonest eBay buyer cheats you. Because you were stupid and got what you deserve.

I totally agree. Another reason I always use a tracking number on everything I send. I may take your advice and pay the insurance myself.

Well, kinda. Ebay could have stopped this through user policing or some other form of software control. Instead they chose to stick another 1/2-1% of gross sales in their pocket. Or whatever the numbers. If I sell an item for $100 with a flat rate shipping of $5.20, that's another $0.47 to Ebay, or another .47%.

I've tried the free shipping, and I don't see much difference between that and reasonable shipping.

I always include insurance if the value of the total sale is going to go over...say $50. This way if the Post Office loses the box I won't be screwed.

Buyer has no choice in any of my sales.

Insurance is included.

I only ship UPS.

FedEx cost me $550.00 for 6 months once and then $600.00 for 3 or 4 months the next time. Both radios went into the Memphis terminal and then ceased to exist.

Don't want insurance, don't bid.

Don't want UPS, don't bid.

Simple, huh?
