Xiegu G90 (repost in own thread)

I did the FW update to 1.71 yesterday on my G90...no issues.
I updated the main body unit (xceiver) first, and then did the display unit (remote head). I agree that those having issues are probably experiencing operator error.

I find the update to be pretty good. Seems that all the new features are a nice addition to the radio, and the fixes are welcomed. Let’s hope that Xiegu continues improving this radio. It seems to be gaining interest in the ham community, as I know of two other hams in my area who bought them.

I dumped Facebook over a year ago (and never going back to that evil, anti-American service), so I have to get my info from the GroupsIO group and here. I wish everyone would cancel their Facebook and Twitter accounts, so information could be disseminated equitably and fairly. Guess I can only wish.

I was hoping for RIT control with 1.7.

Anybody else find the G90 tx audio a little muddy and bassy?
Mike from Yeticomnz has come up with a fix that works a treat.
Open the mic and expose the PCB inside.
Change C15 to 2.2N and
C14 to 10N.
Much much clearer now.
BTW my Icom compatible microphones also work well with the G90.

What other icom mics are you using. I want something smaller

Something like the one that came with the 706. I have to say the converted original mic sounds the best for DX by far. You will still need to cross over to the RJ45 connector for the xiegu or re do the connector. Optima mic will also work but a bit muddy also.
I find the converted original mic to work the best and get heard way better.
Around town people may prefer something bassier...

I like the size and feel of the 706 mic. Actually, the stock mic isn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I read the modification in one of the Xiegu groups. I do need to do it. Couple locals said it sounded nowhere near my voice. One guy even thought I was someone else. Funny though, when I monitor my voice on a different radio, I think it sounds like me. More than a few gave told me its very bassy.

I think Binrat suffered from overload when operating in close proximity to other stations when he SOTA. Other than that, I suspect it would perform just as good as similar offerings. I thought the receive was decent. Widebanding is simple. Can't stress enough how well the tuner works, very impressive.
