ok here's my trouble when im on 17 meters and i tune the antenna with the tuner that is built into the radio i can talk for a min and then the radio will stop modulating and when this happen's the meter look's as if i was holding a dead key. now it only dose this when im using the the built in tuner and only on this band when i use the mfj 949E tuner this dose not happen can anyone tell me what might be going on here.

Are you using two tuners ( the radio) & (MFJ tuner) inline?

yes but when i use the tuner in the radio i put the mfj tuner on bypass

This sounds odd. Are you getting somesort of feedback or ground loop?? I never have trouble with my FT-450AT

Wrap an RF choke or ugly balun in your feed line, this should stop any CMC coming back to the rig, also do you have a good ground? I mean station ground is the rig grounded to a ground rod?

I have been chasing the same gremlin on 17 meters also, but little different scenario, I only have issues when I use the yagi, the wire is no problem.

Let us know what you find out when you actually get it eliminated.
