Yaesu FT-1802

I just got the FT-1802M, I haven't gotten everything set up because I'm working on an antenna bar behind the cab of my truck. I've hooked it up on my power supply and looked at some of the programing and options...its seems to be a very nice radio.

One think I have noticed is that I haven't seen many for sale used like some similar 2 meter models. I know others have been around longer so there are more out, but I think a big part is people really like them. Great radio for the money!

I think that 2000 has more buttons and knobs than mission control !  Don't want to bump one ! It would take a month to figure out which one you hit ! LOL ! Nice looking radio though. Bet the price tag is pretty heavy.
I like the 2 meter radio. One thing is I hope this is a mis-print-

TX: 144-146 MHz

Hello 83TurboRanger so have you had a chance to play with new FT1802? What's your review so far? I really like the dimensions.......it would fit nicely in my Ranger, even though my Icom 2100 is still doing it's thing. Quick story behind icom 2100,
Friend of mine bought used 95 durmax deisel from chevy dealer and few weeks later found Icom 2100 and two 2 meter antennas :D I was at the right place at the right time
BTW 83TurboRanger i'm curious whats behind your forum name?

Hey Ron you duckplucker  com'on man that ft-2000 looks sweet and as they always say...... there's not enough E's in sweet to describe how sweet is is :D I think yaesu's ft1000MPmkV/Mk V Field series is now discontinued and yaesus ft-2000 will replace it.

novakor,
I like it a lot. I haven't gotten it in my truck because I'm going to use an antenna bar/headache rack and I'm still working on that (it should be done in a week). I do like the radio a lot and on 50w I talked to Harrisburg from southern PA which is about and hour drive. The guy said I was sounding real good. I had it set up at a buddy's house using a J-pole. The radio has a ton of features...even more than I know what they all do yet and even when I know what they all do I probably won't use them all. lol This is my first ham raido so I don't have a lot to compare it to but I love it. My buddy has an FT-2000 I think it is and he really likes mine. I also like the size. I have a manual '94 Ranger and with the shifter there is very little space. It is nice that I didn't have to worry about fitting this radio in. (My Galaxy DX959 is another story. lol) But I like this radio a lot and its features. I will get a lot better feel for it in the next 2 weeks as I start to use it in my truck, but so far I love it! And the price is very nice also. $134.95 Shipped. Not too bad I didn't think. 73

Has anyone noticed the TX range un-moded, does it cut off right at 148.00 or does it go a little futher ?

Most Yaesu 2mFM radios will only transmit on freq settings from 144.105 to 147.995. This keeps the FM deviation from going out of band. On FM if your center frequency is 148 the upper half of your deviation would be out of band, so Yaesu is courteous enough to prevent that.

Most can be software modded for operation higher, like for CAP/MARS at 148.15, maybe higher.

Intermod test, I just got back from driving to San Antonio, TX. On my way down I remembered a location on IH-35 in Live Oak, TX (north San Antonio) that has very bad intermod and was wondering how bad it will effect the 1802. I had it in the mem mode scanning about 50 channels and did NOT get any intermod ! I was shocked, every radio I have ever had gets intermod at that spot, including Motorola's ! I am very impressed.
