Yeticom Optima MK3 Mobile

Kind of risky spending $300+ for a radio with no warranty though.
Why do you keep saying you get no warranty with Yeti.Optima??? You see refurbished units on the market from time to time. They have a refurbished sticker on the side. They are not manufacturing "refurb's" so by default that means they replaced units under warranty then repaired these units and turned around and sold them at a discount as refurb's....Just wondering why you keep saying you get no warranty with them but do not offer any experience up with that claim. Not saying you are lieing either but that is a bold claim to keep making on every single Yeti Optima thread with no support.

Thanks for explaining again not saying you are a liar just wish you would expand and explain a bit why you keep saying that.

Sincerely,

John

Because when I e-mailed yeticom a person named Mike answered my email telling me that according to NZ law they only provided warranty service for NZ citizens as of...whatever date he gave me.

that person is totally incorrect.
There is no warranty on equipment sold overseas as of 15 April 2016 due to law changes here.
There has never been a transfer of warranty policy to a third party.
http://www.survival-systems.com/yeticom/nz/terms_files/Terms & Conditions.htm < this page is only on the new zealand section of the site
as you can see below changes were made to company policy mike
at the time I posted it I included the link I was sent that stated the policy, a page I couldn't find anyway to get to from their site. a page that now appears to be no longer available. it's why I didn't order one, I'm not paying 300$ for a radio with 0 warranty.

Thanks for explaining.

I just bought a NIB/NOS one at a significant discount.

I always assume that once I pop the tins off a box to convert that I likely have no warranty completely at the mercy of the OEM.

If I had not gotten it very reasonably priced I would not have gotten one either. The shipping is insane! I do a lot of usiness with China/Taiwan and Russia and $65 to ship a radio is insane.

I would go direct to OEM or Chinese middle man before I would pay $65 to ship a radio. That is why I never buy anything from Canada which is just 1-2 hours away from me. The shipping is brutal!

They need to give the customer the shipping address than back to the manufacture than for servicing!

I know I saw a lot of Chi-Com radio we love at GoodWill Telecommunications or something like that. I only wanted one so I did not pursue it.

I do not really buy into "Proprietary Modification BS" I have seen the mod's inside of Magnum 1's and those are just cap mod's and they did not even use premium name brand cap's for the "factory modifications". It is not that had to follow a circuit and swap out caps while listening tot he radio to see what you like etc....

I build custom trumpets as a side business so I order parts from all over the globe and do a lot of business with EMS.

Interesting fact I learned today... I was talking to a station about 7 miles away on ssb with the power turned all the way down on the optima. I had messed with a few mics (turner +2, stock mic, extreme 2018) with good results on the stock mic. I plugged in an old rk-56, and he immediately called me out on it. Said it was the best I had ever sounded.

I may actually like the optima after all... since it seems to like my favorite mic as much as I do.

I see a lot of talk on how goog and how bad the OPTIMA is. Can or well anyof you tell me how to turn up the modulationon the OPTIMA MK 3 ?. Mine is and has always been LOW. I do not want to use a power mic on this radio if I can help it. Thanks to all .

Thanks Mudduck I,ll look at mine,i just wonder if I have to do anything to the modulation now I,m gitting my helper on SAT..... I picked up a [ 100 Bilinear] NO JOKE that's the name of it, I,v never had a linear B4 I hope I don't blow it UP.

I have a DIAMOND SX-200 watt meter I use all the time. I just set the output watts to 0 on the radio on AM, and than set the meter to SSB, I can than drive the radio set to 0 watts out to 5 watts out.. Will this work or do I have to set the side band modulation lower inside the radio. I,v allways had HF radios in the past and 100 wattsout have been all I ever wanted.
