There's about 2.4% difference in length from a .625 (5/8 ) to a .64.


 There's about 1.8% difference from 26.965 (ch.1) to 27.405 (ch.40).


 I believe it's more of an issue of the Take-Off-Angle of the antenna design. The .64 will hug the Earth a bit longer/ further which could be a bad thing if one lives in a canyon, a good thing for those in the flatlands.


 For 'Canyonites' buy a Starduster!




 I wonder what possible gain you might see if you used four 8' 8" guy wires, each to an insulator, as radials instead?
