I'm very happy with the construction. Looks to be made very well and should withstand some punishment. It went together quick and easy. SWR is 1:2.1 in the center and less than 1:5.1 at both edges. I like the rectangular fiberglass boom.
I dont know what you were running before but if it's an omni you should definitely see a big improvement and hopefully have no trouble working your friends on simplex.I have it vertical for now. There's a group of guys that my friend talks to each night on simplex. I can hear him, but none of the others. I can only hear a little static, but I'm confident I'll be able to work them.
The way this will be tripod mounted on my house, I'll have easy access to it from a ladder on my bathroom roof. Should only take 30 minutes to swap it out to horizontal, or erect a different antenna. I've also thought about making a plate that will allow me to switch back and forth H/V. Seen a YouTube video where a dude did that with his quad.
