    CB HOOLIGANS

Back when I was 17, about 10 years ago, everyone had a cb around here. Generally on weeknights you could hear a couple people but Friday nights, it was like a Wal-Mart parking lot on black Friday. There was this group of kids, probably 4 or 5 of them that I knew, we talked pretty regular...

    CB HOOLIGANS

What's the odds of that, never know what you'll hear on the radio.

How long before the men in black come knocking

Hey Robb sorry if I came across the wrong way on my last post. The 150 watt comment was really just sarcasm, you're absolutely right about the fancy antenna, a good antenna can do more with less no doubt. I could probably get away with less than 250 watts, the radio I have dead keys 10 watts...

    CB HOOLIGANS

So CB radio has been around since the 50's I think, requiring a license by FCC. Later the license requirement was dropped, a little later CB became a free for all. So since we have all grown up and became responsible adults that can now laugh at the childish antics that played out on 11m that...

How long before the men in black come knocking

It seems like you need at least 150 watts nowadays to talk even to the locals. It ain't what is was 10 years ago. I think 250 watts would do everything I need to do with my W-58 antenna 40' up. I know the antrons and Imax have a rep of horrible bleed over but haven't really seen to much on...

How long before the men in black come knocking

Thanks for all the responses to my question. I was looking at maybe a Palomar HD250FET amplifier. I don't know how well these are filtered nor do I understand the designs of amplifiers concerning "linearity", is that even a word? Is there anything that can be done to an amp to make them...

How long before the men in black come knocking

Hey everyone, late and I can't sleep so figure I would ask a question. I am looking to buy an amp, nothing big to compete with the big boy in " da bowl" but something like a 250 watt. How exactly does the FCC know I have an amp and go about starting an investigation? No freebanding or ham...

    W-58 mast

Hey everyone, hope everybody had a good 4th of July. Well I finally spent the money on a Workman W-58 antenna so now I have to figure out what to put it on. I want to go about 40' up and was thinking of mounting it on 2 pieces of 1 3/8" top rail like they use on chain link fence with a total...

    Proper name for a part

Sorry for the delay responding back to every ones replies, thanks for the information. I am trying to learn as much as possible, I've learned a good bit so far but still have a lot left to go, mainly trying to learn schematic reading and component identification. Is there a better suited area...

    Proper name for a part

Oh I got one more question for you, I am looking at the Palomar HD450FET amplifier schematic and need to know what an EXCITER is. Located in the top left corner of the diagram then again about dead center coming from a relay. Thanks in advance for your patience, -Hustler

    Proper name for a part

Hey everyone, I have become interested in constructing a linear amplifier but have ran into a problem. Where do I find the transformers for an amp, what it looks like is 2 ferrite beads laid on there sides with 2-4 turns of wire running through the center. On the ends, it looks like cardboard...

    another antenna question

Well I just got done with the antenna, I took a 10' piece of top rail and welded the mount on then cut the pipe just under the mount, but long enough to stick in a piece of pvc pipe and took that and put on the piece that I cut it from. Stuck the whip on top and ran 4 wires from the 2 bottom...

    another antenna question

Yeah Robb that is what I was starting to think the more I thought about it. Other wise wouldn't I need a matching section since one side is longer than the other, I thinks that is what is known as electrically unbalanced right?
