Last weekend's ARRL contest nabbed me 6 Japan contacts on 10m, all solid signals and just using my EFLW.

My Quad 6 outputs around 70w and runs warm but not hot. Also has 1 small fan mounted to the heatsink. It's quiet yet draws air past the fins.

The AR3500 has strong modulation and clear audio as one of it's best features. It's a well designed and crafted set... better than Galaxy, President, RCI and other exports of its day. I own one as well.

You are referring to the Chirp software? If so, I'm unfamiliar with the effectiveness of that one--- concerned that it doesn't inadvertently foul up a new radio!

I have a UV-B5 and no complaints so far. Clear audio, effective squelch, easy access menu adjustments. It's size is very handy for pocketing. Amazing radio for under $40

Just bought a UV-B5 new for under $40 plus the programming cable/software. No complaints thus far and audio quality is quite decent.
