If you have time to fix it great - but I agree with Tallman, my time is money so I'd just pick up a new one for $60. Ever since I sold my bigger amps and recently sold my 4 pills I've only been using KL203's and they are the best bang for the buck.
The key with the Kl203's is the carrier input...
Not sure where the comparison to the 2950DX came up but I have used both and found both radios to be very stable. I like the 2950X better as the user interface is much easier. Stryker functions are weird and would agree that it's better suited to someone who wants echo and flashing lights. It's...
I myself prefer the older S-9 with the 1969, but it's just a personal preference as I had one that really performed great and is still working good 8 years after I sold it to a friend.
I've owned plenty of radios with mosfets, they tend to be a little more finicky but nothing wrong per se with...
Do you mind getting out before you go into the garage? I just unscrew my wilson when I go into a parking garage?
Or is this your home/condo building garage?
I used to live in a condo with underground parking and I put a whip with a quick disconnect on my truck. Also the sirio 5000 has a...
If this radio is inside the house and you're powering it with a power supply any chance the neg/pos wires had a stray wire on the power supply?
You need to check power at the back of the radio at the plug using a multimeter and then check to see if you have voltage at the volume/power switch...
I was going to ask do you live near any type of federal service. I can remember when I lived near the border I would get the same thing on 23 for years and I never pinpointed it but figured it had to do with the border patrol equipment. It basically made the channel unuseable,
Maybe those gates show some wide audio but I've heard a lot nicer sounding stations on the air than any of those. Maybe it's just the video recording not doing them justice. Some people are just born with a golden voice - no hifi required :)
I'd check your mike plug as well, I was getting a high pitched hum on one of my desk mikes and there was one tiny strand of wire on the plug touching another wire.
I love my Echomax as well. I retired my Turner +3 a number of years ago and the Echomax is the main microphone. I use it on my ham...
These mics were amazingly well built. My only real problem over the years with turner +3 mics has been the leaf springs and the battery connectors. I've never had anything else fail on one yet.
I think people forget that our hobby is based on conversation, it's not a hour long radio broadcast. I'd much rather listen to someone who sounds natural than talk to a robot on the air.
On Maui for a long time there was a guy with a Robyn T-240D and a desk mike and on the air he sounded better than any of "rack audio" people I hear on the air with overcompressed audio. The guy had a perfect voice for radio as well which helped but man was his audio so clean and it just cut...
If you buy the right radio with the right microphone you can sound 90% as good without wasting all the money :) Also a lot of the equipment run is unnecessary - those guys play king of the mountain same way people do with amps. Look at me, I have this running into this running into this running...
Yeah - I know he and some people would get into it on occasion but overall everytime I every dealt with 4040 he was just the nicest guy and friendly and most of all he was having a lot of fun on the radio which is what it is all about.
If you ever see pictures, MMM is out in a pretty sparse area I believe as well so no neighbors to complain.
I had no idea 4040 passed away, very sad to hear that. He always came in strong to Hawaii and I had been talking to him for years.
# 1 - It's possible your antenna/coax system isn't ideal and you've got some other issues going on. As mentioned the first step to really know would be to test using a dummy load and a known good meter.
# 2 - If there's nothing wrong with your setup, yeah - there is something they should have...
Someone jamming on 38? Cant.....reach....channel....knob.....must continue to listen.
Seriously though, yeah that sucks. Retards everywhere. The jamming doesn't bother me as much as the fact they can vote. CQ 10 10 CQ 10 10 this is KC4 TVZ
Yeah - I've had it happen with too short of a jumper cable or a questionable jumper cable with a short. Amp goes crazy, peaks, and trips the circuit. I always use 6' or longer jumpers now.
