Well finally got around to putting up a few pics of one of my mobile. I always wanted to do a 1/4 wave whip just never wanted to ball mount.....til now. The wife got a new (used) car so I ended up with the 20 yr old honda as my back and forth to work ride. What better than this old beater to drill a hole in the fender lol. I went with a mfj 1966 108 in stainless whip mounted to a Breedlove solid brass adjustable ball mount. I drive this with a (dtb tuned) 2950dx w astatic 636 (with up/down channel buttons I installed) and an old Texas star 250hd. I took my time with my install getting a good ground for the backing plate of my mount, ran my power off the battery and grounded amp and radio to seat bolt. So far I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Wow does this big whip work and is broad banded! I still have to mount a fan on the amp but is doesn't get to hot since I mostly run ssb. Car does get some funny looks though...

Had a lady behind me the other day at a stop light and I could have sworn I saw her point and mouth WTF! I got a good laugh. I really dont care what it looks like because it works well. 250k and rust spots so who cares. You will however never see this antenna or any other on the wife's Chrysler 300 or my camaro....and it will NEVER have a fart can muffler duster lol.

I used to get all kinds of those reactions when I had my 10 foot home made HF antenna mounted about 3 1/2 feet off the ground on the hatch door of my Ford Escape. It was tuned for 15m but operated all bands with an auto-tuner. The bottom half was a heavy fiberglass shaft helically wound with coaxial braid and covered with heat shrink tubing. The top half was a whip. the top was 13'6" off the ground. I may mount it on the Toyota Tundra this summer.

You still need to add one more antenna and co-phase it. I had a sign on my Dodge Carryall which had 108" X2. The sign read, "Warning this Vehicle is radio controlled by Aliens who have no traffic laws. Levitation may happen at any time."
It was one of those perfect $200.00 trucks with $500.00 worth of electronics inside.

Looks stealth honda install to me, im a solid 1/4 wave fan, regardless of its length, we all know a 8.5' whip has the most awesome signal of all! and to drive it with a little bump / no better way to go,,,,trunk mounts are flimsy, and it sounds like you got the back side of that ball grounded and braced well so it dosent flex and rock the body pannel around (as she sways)....good job!

honestly the 102 is stealth as f,,,,from 100 feet away,,,,,,,,,,,,,,get closer its noticeable! lol
compared to any base loaded wilson, or georgia trucker silver coil show off special, or even a 4 foot firestick (aka rookie wood) the 102 is un noticeable at 100 feet! it only shows its presence in 2 ways,,,,,,,,1 up close , and 2 from a distance (via signal)!

Nothing at all stealth about my install lol...looks like a remote control car. Still working well bout a year later. The Breedlove mount is VERY heavy duty. If some kid thought he would pull a prank and pull it off, the entire rear quarter panel of the car would come off before the mount would.

Is that a 102" or 108". If its a 102" you need to add the pot belly spring to make it a 1/4 wave. It work very well. I had a 90 Corrolla mounted in the same place. got me out pretty well. SSb and AM w/my 2x2879 Davemade.
