New Uniden 520 - remove talkback?

I just picked up a new Uniden 520. Does anyone know how to kill the talkback with the external speaker plugged in? I see several chip resistors on the back...is it one of those?

This is the first I've heard of ANY Uniden having talkback from the factory. Does the radio have talkback with the external speaker unplugged? If not, I'd suspect some kind of ground short where the speaker plugs in.

There's no talkback with the external speaker unplugged. I thought it was pretty odd, as well. I was also thinking there might be a ground short somewhere, but I figured I'd ask to make sure. I guess it's time to start hunting for it.

OK, put it on the bench and pulled the covers off. When I TX, there's more RF vibrating off the case than you can imagine. I don't hear the "talkback" with a non-amplified speaker, but when I use a powered speaker, it's pretty loud. So I must have a short to ground somewhere. Haven't been able to find it yet....

try another mic. Could be a short in the plug. Long shot, though.
