Anyone know of that radio shack SS whip that has that little black base coil. well my friend has one and he's in the mud around town. You think i could throw my magnaforce 2 pill into it?
Its mounted on his light bar on his jeep. this wont be a problem will it?

Which part as a problem? The light bar? Not if it's securely grounded to the rest of the jeep's body, maybe. The amplifier? It might, don't know. If that's the antenna I'm thinking of, that little black thinky has an impedance matching coil in it. If the wire used to make that coil is of sufficient size and the coil turns are spaced enough apart, the amplifier shouldn't be much of a problem. Will it make him be heard around town? Beats me, but probably. Give him your amplifier and see what happens...

Lots of "if's" and "buts" in there, huh?

Most jeep light bars are painted and are bolted to painted areas on the body... On my old jeep I finally just welded a steel plate (used as a mounting surface) on top of the riser conecting the a pillar to the b pillar of the rollbar which had been structuraly tied into the frame... the swr's came way down then...

Whiping the whip...

I think the Radio shack whip you are talking about is the 64" antenna that has a thin black coiled section at the bottom. I've had excellent results with that antenna and have run a MF350 into it with no problems and excellent SWR.

Run two different ones on different occasions and worked almost as good as my 102" whip.

If it's a mag mount or other POS don't run power into it.

The only antenna on this page that is good enough for an amp is the 102'' whip all the others I would not key more than just the radio into.

Radio shack only sells two antennas that can be used with an amp - the 102" SS whip and the 21-988 64" base loaded whip.

The 64" antenna will handle a two pill amp. I have used it on multiple setups.

I was weary of running power into the 64" base loaded whip but did so with excellent results for over a year - S9 into a MF350 into helix coax into the 64" base loaded whip.

We checked this setup with an antenna analzyer and the results on mysetup were comparable to a Predator 10K as far as the antenna analyzer was concerned. I made a multitude of DX contacts with this setup - the antenna never showed any wear or any high SWRs. I grounded with multiple cables and used heavy duty heliax coax. Only reason I used a spring was I had the whip cut too short for a previous install.

I also ran the same antenna on a Ford Escort with a Magnum 257 into a KL203 into mini-8 into this antenna with 1.3 swr and no problems whatsoever.
