Hi,

I'm setting up 2m and 70cm yagi on opposite ends of a horizontal boom on a Yaesu G-5500 Az/El rotator. I was just wondering if there is any information out there on the neatest way to organize/attach the two antenna cables and the elevation rotator cable so that they move freely and don't become tangled?

Thanks,

John

go here KB5WIA Amateur Radio and look around. there are lots of pix, only a few show what you are looking for.

when you get past all the sand dune area pics and to the fixed station pics, notice that he uses a different antenna. the 6 ele YAGI with a choke coil on it becomes a 4 ele yagi

Secure the cables a foot or two below the rotator and leave some slack in the cables. Most folks make a turn or two of cable around the rotator before going to the antennas. This allows the loops to move freely as the rotator turns back and forth.

once you've done as Garth says, set the rotator for north, erect the antenna with the beam pointing north, and the job's a good un.

when using a rotator it certainly pays to solder the coax shield to the pl259 or using a strain relief ps gland n plug/ or even a strain relief ps gland type pl plug to stop the coax twisting in the plug while the rotator is turning. although in saying that it should always be done that way anyway as it gives a good electrical and mechanical connection.
