For the most part I prefer the balanced tuner (palstar).
The big feature for me is the ability to switch to the lower capacity setting on 10 meters and other higher bands to get away from the stray capacity effect.
The palstar doesn't work as well on my inverted L on 160. Both are ok and I enjoy the ability to change bands sometimes without redoing the coax lash-up. I use the 238B mostly on 160.
No, this is a later one. I understand some of the earlier models were a bit noisy.
I had a 238 for a long time and the control knob was a bit strange-but not a problem. The newer Ten-Tec tuners don't have the dial string set-up -
