Exactly what I thought. Back to their same scheme but we already know what the quality control looks like.Maybe Ranger copied the Qixiang like they copied the Uniden back in the day? Ranger must have bought the license and parts.
It has RT1 transistors so the operator can have bragging rights. They should have given it the noise reduction feature at least....So is this just the 447 in a different dress with a bit more power, or something different and worthwhile?
50 years old Royce? You’ll never find a radio today that had the quality parts as the Royce did.I’ll be laughed at, but I like it. I spotted it the other day at Walcott Radio. I like the size, the look, the meter, and the 80 watts. Not a lot of bells and whistles, and I don’t care for SSB so it might be a good radio for me as a replacement for my 50-year-old Royce and KL203.
The problem being that those parts, especially electrolytic caps, that were quality 50 years ago have now degraded to the point where they may not even function anymore....... and then there's wear and tear, corrosive glue, corrosion etc. etc.50 years old Royce? This vid shows some inside views. Serial number sticker on the outside of the carton is what RCI puts on new radios they produce. Has the first leter "M", indicating the RCI plant in Melaka, Malaysia. Looks like a Stryker on the inside, complete with a circuit board number "EPQZ67601Z".
That, and RCI has been the importer for previous Superstar models.
Main thing is that it will fit in the overhead in new tractors. The SWR protection is worth a lot if it works like it should.
Just goes to show a manufacturer will build to whatever quality level you're willing to pay for.

Holding together so far and performing like a champ. Not sure why I am even looking at new radios. The cost to make a 50 year old Royce a top performer again far exceeds the cost of just buying a new radio. And the new radio will have performance far exceeding what the Royce had, even when new.
