That leaves me with the conclusion that this was made to accompaniment a SWL listeners receiver, particularly those old school receivers that lacked sensitivity above 20 Mhz.
A word of caution that’s not mentioned about those octal plugs, always make sure the power cord is unplugged from the wall socket first before attaching the octal plug. IMO the key post on male side should have been made a little longer to avoid any pins from making contact incorrectly before...
I use an O-Ring on my Retevis RT-5. Unlike the locking methods the ring provides just enough friction to keep the knob from creeping, yet it will still maintain full function.
Maybe it’s just conditions, but from my end in western NY, he doesn’t seem to have the same consistently strong signal day after day. His audio quality is still good, but has also degraded slightly. He was absent the airwaves for several months. The CB'ers at out gravel pit during that time...
I’m occasionally asked,” why do you keep maintaining all those old radios when you can move on to something new”? For me the answer is simple. “They need me”.
Just another way to provide some additional heat sink. I cut the tops and bottoms off two appropriately sized tin cans that would tightly sandwich all the resistors between them. By first laying all the resistors out like spokes on a wheel, a mark was made on the cans where each resistor lead...
Yep, those screws are small and easily lost. Use caution when you tighten them. A snug fit is all that's necessary, otherwise you will strip out the plastic.
If the larger gauge doesn’t fit I break out my Dremel. I try to be consistent throughout with the larger than normal gauge wire that usually comes with an automotive spade fuse dongle, so modifying some of my used plugs is the only option. Saving all my used plugs has paid off, but I still...
After looking at the photo close-up I spotted at least 3 other core tops that are cracked. That typically happens when too much force is used or from an improper sized tool.
Frank's Hot sauce. Great flavor without the after burn. I like the taste of everything from mild to medium Buffalo wings. Anything commanding an immediate drink afterwards is not for me.
I haven’t had one on the bench yet, but the Radioddity CB-27 Pro with FM looks like it came from the same mold as the Cobra 19 MINI. Instead of the menu they replaced it with buttons. I like that improvement. For comparison I attached the manuals for both radios.
I’m thinking Creedence Clearwater Revival should have patented that acronym a long time ago, but I doubt it would stop Chinese knock-off cover bands from playing their music.
I agree the Beaofeng Speaker Mics suck. I'll try the Arbee sometime. The BTECH QHM22 is another quality mic to consider. That's what I've been using on my Baofengs and Kenwood HT. They go for around $25. Their new QHM22D model has a separate PTT button for compatibility with UV82 series...
In that category I’m always partial to the many PLL02A AM Cybernet radios. They’re time tested, and easy to modify. The only downside to them is their age. Therefore A re-cap and glue removal is recommended, but expect another long life afterwards. Many ask about wanting lower channels. The...
