Agreed. I would rather just run a Magnum radio with the top gun for AM or the CP-1 for SSB. The old SP-1A speech processor's were pretty cool years ago as well. Many years ago I had two radio's with the non-volted final version of the NPC mod. Worked great on AM.
I’m in the Midwest, channel 19 is pretty much a ghost town now. Most younger drivers these days either don’t even have a radio or it’s not turned on because they are streaming a movie. 20-25 years ago ch 19 was non stop.
Unfortunately this hobby is not what it was 5-15 years ago. Prices on E-bay are now ridiculous and covid destroyed many supply chains. As an example look at Texas Star amplifiers and parts. Barkett electronics used to have tons of parts, today they are out of stock on most items. Used to be...
You should be able you just use the shift button, put the dot on the last zero in the freq counter. Then use the clarifier to change your frequency. If that does not work your best bet would be to have the clarifier unlocked.
This was my first post on this thread. I know that’s a newer version of that radio and I’m sure someone here knows. Just want you to get the most views for your question.
Don't get hung up on the location or setting of the VR pot. They are not all set to be the same and function exact from the factory. Ranger pumps these things out and the ten year olds ballpark them in on the assembly line best they can. Just kidding but what I mean is the perfect or sweet spot...
The keying jack on the back just means it’s an older model. Back then Texas Star sold amplifiers as CW transmitters (wink wink). From the factory they did not function as an amplifier. There was a small board attached to that jack and it was a simple conversion process that shops would charge...
Worth a try but if you read the "fine print" for most cb shops you will see that they refer all warranty work to the factory authorized repair shop. In this case I think it's just out of alignment though.
Firemantom, where did you buy the radio? Did you get a factory stock radio and convert it...
The answer is yes. (The watt meter should be in-line after the amplifier) Once you turn the amplifier on you must re-calibrate the SWR meter. It's the same concept with a barefoot radio that has variable power. If you check the SWR with just your radio in-line with say a 4 watt dead key you will...
