I just noticed fat finger typing. It should read 7.25 to 7.3 mHz effects 20,15 metres if using it as a multi band. A simple transformer about 6' from the matching transformer works well to adjust the frequencies. I use #14 wire wrapped around 1" outside dia pvc pipe. Anywhere from 5-7 wraps does it.
I have made about 10 this year for 40-10 or specific freq.
I have found that it maybe good on 40, it will be slightly out of band on the others, especially if its tuned on 40 around 7.5 to 7.3 mHz.
I used minimum 1kv 100 pF cap close to feed point.
5 watt and 12 watt pictured.
Give it time, it will come. I hope.
Yesterday it took me 45 minutes to make 3 contacts on 20 metres. Normally I have 8-15 and packed up heading off of the mountain in that time.
I run all portable for HF. Normally with LiPo batteries, some 3 cell, some 4 cell. in mainly a KX2 radio and a 50 watt amp. Due to trying to eliminate weight I don't use a box deal, but pouches.
For radio only I use a 4 cell LiPo 2600 mah battery with a voltage reducer in a small utility pouch...
For VHF i have made numerous from here: https://www.qsl.net/dk7zb/start1.htm
I have had good luck with a half square as well.

For HF I hang my hat on 20 and 40 metres. I prefer 20 for daytime and 40 at late afternoon and night. I'm low power and portable. (QTH has high noise level)
For VHF I am again portable and mobile 2 metres. Longest portable contact from ht to mobile was 265 km. Normally 90-120 km easily achieved...
I have been using a silver cased P50 for over 2 years now with my KX2. I see normally 50 watts on 20 metres. Its a must for these trying conditions for northern NA SOTA. 12 watts from the KX2 is mediocre right now.
Really?? OOPS.
Sorry, couldn't rest.
When I was a VE3 call I had a SB200 but rarely used it. I spent a lot of time on feedline and antennas. Still remember some fine gentlemen on 75 meres from Maine complaining about me running power at 75 watt. flipped the switch to hear them complain more.
Have to agree for the most part.
I had some elmers that pushed me to donate time helping on repeater work. At the time I had an IC-703 and wanted more power. Guess what I studied amplifier design, researched repeaters along with some other stuff. One day the club VE asked me for help, the...
