    Reclaim LSB 16

The predictor says "FAIR" conditions for the daytime hours and "POOR" conditions at night. What I am hearing is a band that is dead this afternoon!

It depends on a few factors, but the daylight hours are typically the most skip-friendly. On LSB 16, we've tried to encourage folks to try at the top of each hour on Saturdays and Sunday, so 1:00P.M.; 2:00P.M., 3:00P.M., etc. Give a shout out when you're up to it.

Noon, Saturday, September 2nd and I am not picking up any skip at all! Nothing on LSB 38, LSB 37 or LSB 16. Monitoring LSB 16 as I watch college football.

Is everyone up for a little DXing on LSB 16 this week-end? Anyone remeber the Firestick FS-99? It was a replacement 3rd section for the A99 that claimed to effectively convert the antenna electrically to a 5/8 wave. I was able to get my hands on a few of them cheap many years ago. Now...

    Reclaim LSB 16

I took the A99 down last week for annual maintenance, so Saturday was a bust. But it was back up Sunday. LSB 16 was dead. Not a single SSB station out there. There was some activity on LSB 38, but it definitely was not the wild west. One group ratchet jawed away on LSB 38 for quite a while...

    Realistic TRC-448 AM/SSB?

Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. I had a TRC 448 which I used as a base. It had a Turner +3 desk mic wired to it and the thing sounded fantastic. Folks used to mod them for extra channels. I left mine completely stock. An Air Force officer heard me talking on it one day and asked if...

Saturday, September 2...lots of college football...what's not to love about that? Getting in some decent skip contacts would be icing on the cake.

    GMRS or CB

I use both CB and GMRS. We've got a couple of radio clubs here working on a linked GMRS repeater network that will connect all of South Florida - and I do mean all - from Key West north to West Palm Beach and over West to the Naples/Ft. Myers area. A lot of guys doing a lot of work to make it...

The DX gods have not been kind to us lately. We had some great runs there back in October and November, but the LSB 16 well just about dried up after that. I'm taking advantage and pulling down my antennas for maintenance. I've got my eyes on the Labor Day week-end as our next best...

SATURDAY, JULY 29th and SUNDAY, JULY 30th Alright folks, we are a day away from our much anticipated restart. Daytime skip propagation for 12-10 meter bands is in the "GOOD" range. Looks like we're on! As before, every hour on the hour from 12:00 noon eastern to 6:00 P.M. eastern.

THIS WEEK-END WE HONOR APOLLO 11: In honor of the anniversary of man's landing on the moon on July 20, 1969 and having successfully returned on July 24, 1969, we'll take this week-end off. The "Reclaim LSB 16/Make 16 LSB Great Again" campaign returns full force the week-end of July 29-30th.

Can any 2m/70cm antenna be tuned to GMRS 462MHz?

The only antenna that I know of which is able to tri-band over the frequencies you want is the Diamond NR-7900.

I've got a plan. This upcoming July 22-23 week-end is going to get a pass. It seems to me like the lack of DX propagation has deflated the enthusiasm for some. I say we look forward and concentrate our efforts on the July 29-30th week-end. Thoughts?

Rain, thunder and lightning these past few hours, so I had to disconnect. Today's local weather forecast isn't looking too good.

BRING 'EM (LSB 16) BACK ALIVE: It has been dead and deader down here. The only thing good for me is that I can talk miles and miles locally without any interruption. But I'm ready to hear some skip again. Is everyone up for trying again this week-end? If you are: do we stick to...

I've had the radio on LSB 16 for since about 12:30. In the last hour and a quarter I've heard one Texas station. He was talking to someone else, but that is it. The channel is dead quiet.

While CB skip propagation was dead, we were getting atmospheric ducting on GMRS UHF yesterday. A station in Ft. Myers on the Florida west coast was consistently hitting our radio club's repeater in Miami - about 120 miles to the southeast.

I've been monitoring LSB 16 since around 12:30 as I take care of other matters. It has been dead. I hailed a few times and received absolutely no response. Then again, there hasn't been anyone out there to be heard. The DX propagation has been pretty dead for several months now. We're due.
